The 1995-1996 season brought a new regular
season formula, with all schools now playing a standardized 12 game
regular
season. •The third year also found the championship game with two
firsts: the first city school to make the finals and the first
school trying
to
repeat as champion.
School without Walls went 8-4 in the regular season, winning its
division. Walls opened the playoffs with a 190-115 win over
Clyde-Savannah. Wins
over Geneseo (220-85), Gates Chili (250-50) and Brighton (270-210) put
SWW
into the finals.
Brighton also went 9-4 in the regular season, finishing third in its
league
behind Penfield and McQuaid. The Barons managed wins over
Midlakes
(220-120),
Greece Arcadia (175-105) and Livonia (215-100) before losing to
SWW. Brighton
then beat Penfield in the loser's bracket finals to return to the
championship
game.
Facing a must-win game, Brighton edged Walls 190-180 in
overtime
to force a winner-take-all championship.
Walls jumped out to a 100-5 halftime lead, then managed through a
low-scoring second half to secure the title.
